Afrobeats star Rema has credited legendary duo P-Square as the first Nigerian artists to fly private jets and sell out stadium shows, long before his generation of stars emerged.
He said he is simply enjoying the benefits of the hard work the duo put in, acknowledging the trail they blazed for today’s global Afrobeats movement.
The claim holds up: P-Square reportedly acquired a private jet as far back as 2012 and packed out stadiums across Africa, from over 34,000 fans in Harare to a sold-out Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
The twin brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye, dominated African music for well over a decade, touring the US, UK and much of the continent at a scale few African acts had then reached.
His tribute comes as P-Square’s classic albums surge back up Nigeria’s Apple Music chart, a reminder of the legacy that shaped the stars who followed.
