The Catholic Bishops Conference of NIgeria (CBCN), Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, has appointed Rev Fr Dr Fabian Chinwuba Obi, as the acting rector of the provincial-owned Blessed Iwene Tansi Major Seminary, Onitsha.
The appointment of Fr Obi, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, was necessary due to the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing rector of the seminary, Rev Fr Emmanuel Dim, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia.
According to the letter signed by Rev Fr Dim, and made available to the press, the CBCN, Onitsha Province, after a meeting held with the resident formators of the seminary on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, made the appointment of Rev Fr Fabian Obi, of the Catholic Diocese of Awka as the rector, and Rev Dr Alfred Okeakpu of the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha as the vice rector of the major seminary, respectively.
The new rector, Fr Obi, in his telephone chat with Fides, called for prayers for him and the Seminary family.
When asked what his first thought was, Rev Fr Obi, said his focus was to ensure whatever needed to be done so that the seminarians were prepared in best ways according to the mind of the Church, to become better priests after the mind of Jesus Christ.
