President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security coordination and intelligence operations.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), which said the new role is part of efforts to improve collaboration among security agencies and tackle emerging security threats across the country.

According to the presidency, Fadewa is a highly decorated retired military officer with more than three decades of experience in military intelligence, counter-terrorism operations, national security strategy, and international security diplomacy.

The statement also noted that the retired general previously played a major role in Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework while serving as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.

President Tinubu reportedly expressed confidence that Fadewa’s appointment would strengthen the administration’s efforts toward achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria through improved intelligence integration, proactive risk management, and homeland security coordination.

The appointment comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to reform Nigeria’s security architecture and respond more effectively to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security challenges nationwide.
