Residents of Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State reportedly erupted in jubilation after a suspected officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) drowned in the Ethiope River while allegedly pursuing a suspected drug trafficker.
The incident reportedly occurred during an operation in the area, when the officer was said to have entered the river in an attempt to apprehend the suspected drug trafficker.

According to reports, the officer drowned in the course of the pursuit, while details surrounding the circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
The reported reaction from some residents has also drawn attention, with accounts indicating that some people celebrated the incident.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement confirming the identity of the officer, the circumstances leading to the drowning, or whether the suspected drug trafficker was apprehended.
