Nollywood actress and producer Ruth Kadiri has opened up about her decision to keep her marriage private, revealing that her fear of marriage and uncertainty about the future influenced the way she approached her wedding.
Kadiri explained that she initially had a “phobia of marriage” and was worried about making a decision that could eventually fall apart.
According to the actress, the fear of the unknown made her reluctant to have a highly publicised wedding, although her husband supported her decision.
“I had a phobia of marriage. I was battling with the fear of the unknown and asking myself, ‘Am I going to make this decision and everything will now scatter?’ So, I wasn’t really ready to have a public marriage, and my husband was okay with it,” she said.
Kadiri also disclosed that she deliberately avoided inviting a large crowd to her wedding because she did not want unnecessary drama surrounding her relationship.
She revealed that only 50 people attended the wedding, with 25 guests chosen by her and another 25 invited by her husband.
“Also, I didn’t want a lot of drama regarding my relationship. That’s why my husband and I invited only 50 people to our wedding. Twenty-five people were invited by him, while 25 others were invited by me,” she added.
The actress further suggested that if she had been living abroad, she might have opted for an even simpler wedding ceremony.
“If I were abroad, I guess we would have just probably walked to the registry and gotten married,” Kadiri said.
