Abuja—The Nigerian Senate is heating up, and it’s not because of a power outage. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has issued a stern warning to Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, telling her to stay out of the swirling allegations against her husband.

It all started when Akpoti-Uduaghan refused to sit in a designated seat during a Senate session, invoking Order 10 of the Senate Standing Rules. What seemed like a minor seating disagreement soon spiraled into a full-blown drama, culminating in allegations that Akpabio had been blocking her motions, maligning her, and—wait for it—harassing her after she allegedly turned down his advances.

In response, Mrs. Akpabio stepped into the ring, dismissing the allegations at a press conference in Abuja and insisting that both families had enjoyed a cordial relationship before Akpoti-Uduaghan’s marriage.

But the Kogi Central senator was having none of it. Through her lawyer, Victor Giwa, she fired off a letter dated March 1, 2025, with a headline so direct it could double as a Nollywood script: “Stay Away from Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sexual Harassment and Intimidation Allegation Against Senate President Godswill Akpabio To Safeguard Your Sanity and That of Your Family.”

Translation? Madam, this is not your fight.

The letter emphasized that the allegations were against the Senate President, not his wife, and urged Mrs. Akpabio to allow her husband to defend himself.

“Our client has concrete evidence to substantiate her allegations,” the letter stated, subtly hinting that receipts were ready to be dropped if necessary.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, known for her advocacy for Nigerian women, reiterated her commitment to family values while standing her ground in the face of political intimidation.

With tensions running high and accusations flying, one thing is clear—this is one Senate session Nigerians won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
