Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a man of courage for removing the fuel subsidy, saying previous administrations could not take the decision because of its political consequences.
Okpebholo made the remarks on October 8, 2026, during the APC statewide mobilisation tour in Agenebode, Edo State.
In his words; “Mr president is a man of courage. For many years, Nigeria has been battling to remove fuel subsidy and no president right from obasanjo or good luck Jonathan, none of them could remove subsidy.”
He added, “They couldn’t because the removal of fuel subsidy can remove a president from office. That is why you are seeing the boost of the economy on Nigeria today.”
The governor also said the Tinubu administration’s reforms were succeeding and urged the government to ensure that ordinary Nigerians benefit from the resources generated by the reforms.
“The reform of Mr president is succeeding. Let the common man be the one to enjoy this money, there are so many holes that have already been created. Those holes now is what he is filing.”
Okpebholo further expressed optimism that the country’s economy would become stronger as the reforms progress.
“By the time he cements all those holes, then Nigeria will bounce back. Nigeria will be strong like America, Nigeria will be strong like England, our economy will be very strong.”
