There was an exchange of gunfire between Nigerian troops and suspected terrorists in Obajana town, Kogi State, on Saturday night, as security forces intensified ongoing clearance operations in the area.
Security sources said the troops engaged the armed men after they were reportedly sighted attempting to infiltrate the community. The confrontation triggered panic among residents, many of whom reportedly took cover as the sound of gunfire echoed through parts of the town.
The operation is part of sustained efforts by the military to flush out criminal and terrorist elements operating within and around Obajana and neighbouring communities. Troops were said to have responded swiftly, preventing the suspected terrorists from gaining access to strategic locations within the town.
