U.S. President Donald J. Trump has announced what he described as a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in the Gaza Strip, calling it a major breakthrough toward achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
In a statement released on Thursday, Trump said the agreement would pave the way for Gaza to be governed by a new Palestinian administration that would work closely with what he referred to as the “Board of Peace” to improve the lives of Palestinians while ensuring Israel’s security.
According to the U.S. president, the agreement forms a key part of his 20-Point Plan for the Middle East and will be implemented in carefully structured phases. He stated that as the disarmament process progresses, Israeli forces will gradually withdraw from Gaza, while an International Stabilization Force, alongside a newly established Palestinian police force, will assume responsibility for maintaining security.
Trump noted that the development marks significant progress compared to the situation a year ago, when Gaza was engulfed in war, a humanitarian crisis, and the continued captivity of hostages.
He also expressed appreciation to Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye for their mediation efforts, while commending his team for what he described as tireless work in securing the agreement.
Reaffirming his administration’s position, Trump declared that the threat that emerged from Gaza during the October 7 attacks “will not be allowed to rebuild.”
He concluded by congratulating all parties involved, describing the agreement as an “amazing development” that many believed could never be achieved.
