The Nigerian military has intensified its offensive against insurgents in the North-East, reporting the neutralisation of 15 suspected terrorists in an air strike near Pulka in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The precision strike, conducted at about 11:50 p.m. on Friday, October 23, followed intelligence reports and confirmed sightings of suspected terrorist movements in an area north-west of Pulka.
The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, announced the development in a statement issued on Saturday by its Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni.
According to the military, the air operation was followed by ground manoeuvres aimed at exploiting the targeted area and consolidating the gains recorded during the offensive.
The task force said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to weaken insurgent groups, restrict their movements and disrupt their operational activities across the North-East.
It explained that the successful execution of the strike underscored the importance of intelligence gathering and coordinated military operations in identifying and targeting suspected terrorist elements.
The military added that troops had continued to sustain pressure on insurgents through offensive operations backed by intelligence-led strategies and the coordinated deployment of military resources.
It said the broader objective was to deny armed groups freedom of movement and prevent them from carrying out attacks against communities within the theatre of operations.
Operation Hadin Kai also reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism, protecting civilians and creating a secure environment for the restoration of normal life and economic activities in affected communities.
The task force urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information about suspicious movements and activities, stressing that public cooperation remained essential to achieving lasting peace.
However, the military did not disclose the identities of the 15 suspected terrorists reportedly killed in the strike. It also did not provide details on whether any soldiers or civilians were affected by the operation.
