Residents of Kauran Namoda town in Zamfara State have been thrown into mourning and uncertainty following a reported attack by suspected terrorists that left at least seven people dead and several others abducted.
The assailants reportedly stormed the community on Friday night, killing residents and taking an unspecified number of people away, leaving families worried about the safety of their missing relatives.
The incident was made public on Saturday by Bakatsine, who posts on X under the handle @DanKatsina50.
According to the report, seven residents were killed during the attack, while several others were abducted by the gunmen. A photograph shared alongside the post showed residents gathered for a funeral prayer for the victims.
The reported incident has once again drawn attention to the persistent security challenges confronting Zamfara State, where armed groups have continued to launch attacks on communities, killing residents and abducting people for ransom.
The latest killings and abductions have heightened concerns among residents, particularly families still awaiting information about the whereabouts and condition of those reportedly taken away.
However, details surrounding the attack remain unclear, as the identities of the victims and the exact number of abducted residents had not been independently established as of the time of filing this report.
Efforts by SaharaReporters to obtain an official reaction from the Zamfara State Police Command were unsuccessful. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to calls placed to him as of press time.
The incident adds to growing concerns over the safety of rural communities in Zamfara State and the continuing threat posed by armed groups operating in the region.
Residents and affected families are now left hoping for further information on the incident and the safe return of those abducted.
