The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has scheduled its third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for Monday, October 26, 2026, in Abuja, with plans to unveil its National Campaign Council and present Certificates of Return to its candidates.
The party also disclosed that approximately 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford its Expression of Interest forms due to the prevailing economic hardship in the country, prompting the leadership to distribute the forms to the affected aspirants free of charge.
The development was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, who said the meeting would provide an opportunity for the party to demonstrate its commitment to financial transparency and accountability.
According to the statement, the NEC meeting will take place at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja, beginning at 10 a.m.
A major item on the agenda is the presentation of the party’s statement of account by its National Treasurer, a move the NDC said was intended to promote openness in the management of its finances.
The party also challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to adopt similar measures by making their financial records available for scrutiny.
Explaining its financial position, the NDC attributed its limited resources partly to the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, including poverty, hunger and deprivation.
It maintained that its decision to provide free Expression of Interest forms to candidates who could not afford them was a response to the prevailing economic realities, dismissing public speculation surrounding its finances.
The statement further disclosed that the National Campaign Council to be unveiled would cover all levels of electoral contests, including the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
The party said the arrangement was designed to establish a comprehensive campaign structure ahead of the forthcoming electoral activities.
It added that candidates seeking various elective positions would receive their Certificates of Return during the meeting.
Reaffirming its readiness to participate in the political process, the NDC said it was prepared to offer Nigerians what it described as selfless leadership, insisting that a new Nigeria was achievable.
