Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting that some of the government’s difficult economic decisions will eventually produce positive results.
Musa made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while defending the policies and reforms of the Federal Government.
According to the minister, the administration deliberately took difficult decisions because of the need to address longstanding challenges facing the country.
He argued that the full impact of the reforms may not be immediately visible, urging Nigerians to give the government more time for the measures to take effect.
Musa said the dissatisfaction being expressed by some Nigerians should not automatically be interpreted as widespread rejection of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, or President Tinubu.
The minister also dismissed suggestions of growing opposition to the APC in the North, describing some of the criticisms against the administration as sentiments being driven by individual circumstances.
“That’s a perception,” Musa said, adding that people would always have different views about government performance.
Speaking ahead of the 2027 general elections, Musa further expressed confidence that the APC would retain the Presidency and secure victory in Kaduna State at all levels.
Asked whether the APC could lose Kaduna in 2027, he said, “APC will win in Kaduna. That I know.”
He subsequently clarified that his confidence extended beyond the governorship election to the presidential and other elective contests.
His comments came hours after Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso urged their supporters to prepare for the 2027 elections and resist any attempt to undermine voters’ choices.
Kwankwaso had argued that the APC could still lose the presidential election despite its strong control of states, citing the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
Musa, however, maintained that the APC remained firmly positioned for victory, while urging Nigerians to be patient with the Tinubu administration as its reforms continue to unfold.
