Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has declared that the state’s political leadership will not be intimidated amid an escalating disagreement between some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Nwifuru made the declaration on Wednesday during a political event in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, while reacting to comments made by Wike during a recent interview on Arise Television.
Wike had described APC governors as “politically lazy” during the interview, amid disagreements over his reported efforts to build a “Rainbow Coalition” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development followed opposition from APC governors to any political alliance they believe could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid or affect APC candidates across different levels.
Addressing the issue, Nwifuru said reports that President Tinubu had allegedly given Ebonyi State to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or to Wike were unacceptable.
According to the governor, those behind such claims should reconsider their actions, insisting that his administration was not afraid of political confrontation.
He said, “This sentiment came out on the grounds that some people are going around saying that they discussed with Mr President that he has given Ebonyi to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“They also said that the President has given Ebonyi to their leader, Nyesom Wike. We sympathise with them.
“I want to sound this way as your governor that we are not afraid. We have all it takes to destroy whoever is trying us.”
