The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates who will contest in the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 22, 2025, and signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission confirmed that a total of 17 political parties submitted the particulars of their candidates by the deadline of August 11, 2025.

“With this publication, no further withdrawal or replacement of candidates will be allowed except in the event of death of a candidate or running mate before Election Day, as provided by Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act,” the statement read.
The Commission also confirmed that the FCT Area Council elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
