Senator Uche Ekwunife, the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in Anambra State, has issued a public apology for her controversial comments about Governor Charles Soludo’s personal hygiene.
Speaking during an interview with Channels TV, Ekwunife explained the circumstances that led to her outburst while expressing regret for crossing the line.
The senator described how tensions escalated after her nomination as APC’s deputy governorship candidate. “The moment I was announced as the deputy governorship candidate of APC, the governor’s media went too far, castigating me, maligning me, trying to destroy my reputation overnight,”
She expressed disappointment that Governor Soludo did not intervene to stop what she perceived as attacks on her character.
Ekwunife emphasized her personal relationship with the governor, which made his actions more hurtful. “Not only is he my governor, he’s also a friend and a brother—I mean, someone who knows me,” she said.
She detailed her educational background, noting that Soludo was aware of her qualifications. “He’s aware that I had my first degree at the University of Calabar. He’s also aware that I went to UNIZIK, I had my PGD at UNIZIK. I had my master’s at UNICAL. I had my PhD at Atlantic University in America,” Ekwunife explained.
However, she acknowledged that her response went too far. “Probably in the course of doing that, I went overboard by saying all those things, especially when it borders on the governor’s hygiene and all of that. I have regrets, and I am truly sorry for that.”
