Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reiterated the need for Africa to be recognized as a key player in global affairs following a series of high-level engagements in London.

In a statement on Wednesday, Obi disclosed that he held a fruitful meeting on June 10 with Alex Vines, Director of the Africa Programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR).

According to Obi, their discussions centered on strengthening strategic relationships and promoting a deeper understanding of Africa’s evolving role in the international system. He stressed that the continent should no longer be viewed solely through the lens of statistics or humanitarian challenges but as an equal partner in shaping the future global order.

The former Anambra State governor noted that Africa should be regarded alongside emerging global centres of influence such as India and Indonesia in discussions on global development and cooperation.

Obi further emphasized that Africa, particularly Nigeria, must occupy a central position in international conversations on trade, governance, innovation, sustainable development, and strategic partnerships.

He added that constructive dialogue, mutual respect, and stronger cooperation between Africa and the international community remain critical to achieving shared progress and long-term development goals.

Obi concluded the statement with his signature message: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
