Igboukwu’s Olili Ede Mbughu Festival

The Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Somto Udeze, Ph.D will be the Chief Guest of Honour at a traditional festival coming up at Igboukwu, Friday 26th June, 2026 known as OLILI EDE MBUGHU, an Igbo tradition that ushers in a season of scarcity after farming items like yam and cocoyam have been planted and are being awaited for harvesting.

The event will be hosted by Nigeria Development Tourism Authority, Igboukwu Community & Inter Agency Committee on Culture & Tourism, Southeast Zone.

The event will attract various political institutions and heavyweights. The Hon Speaker will grace the event with the Anambra State House of Assembly members, who will come in their numbers. Some Executive Council members of Anambra State Government will also be in attendance like Hon Commissione for Culture, the Hon Commissioners of Culture, Works & Infrastructure and his Housing counterpart will be there.

Hon Tony Muobike , House member representing Aguata II Constituency in the House of Assembly in conjunction with others pioneered this event to help boost the culture of Ndi Igbo that seems extinct.

The Father of the Day is His Royal Highness, Igwe Alex Azike, Idu III of Igboukwu. Hon Engr Dom Okafor, the House of Representatives member for Aguata Federal Constituency will be a special Guest also. It will be hosted by Engr Bart Nwibe, FNSE, Ugo Igboukwu, Hon Offorbuike, Mayor of Aguata will be the Local Government Host, while Dr. M.C.K Ubah, the President General of Igboukwu Development Union, I.D.U will be the Chief Host.

Igboukwu is always considered as the origin of the Igbo tribe.
