The All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu as its flag bearer for the House of Representatives, Enugu North and South Federal Constituency.
Hon. Atu, who is the current member representing the constituency, was elected during the primary election of the party held at the Enugu North Local Government Secretariat, GRA, Enugu.
A total of 30,779 votes were cast during the primary election conducted among the 52,850 registered APC members in Enugu North and Enugu South Local Government Areas.
Announcing the result of the exercise, the party’s returning officer for the primary election, Ekwe Okwudiri, stated that Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu scored 30,396 votes to defeat Hon. Ajuluchukwu Ozor Eze, who scored 383 votes.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, the Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Ibenaku Harford Onoh, described the process as peaceful and transparent. He noted that the outcome of the election reflected the confidence reposed in Hon. Atu by party members across the federal constituency.
Ibenaku Harford Onoh also praised Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for what he described as quality leadership in governance and party administration in Enugu State, adding that the governor has continued to provide direction through policies and projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, and economic activities across the state.
He also stated that Governor Mbah has played a major role in strengthening political cooperation among party members and stakeholders in different parts of the state. According to him, the peaceful conduct of political activities and consultations within the party structure has helped in promoting stability and unity.
He further stated that many areas in the state have continued to witness development through road construction, urban renewal, investment drives, and support for businesses, adding that the governor’s style of leadership has encouraged more participation among young people and grassroots supporters in party affairs.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Caleb Ani, said the primary election showed the unity existing within the party in the constituency. He added that delegates and party members from both local government areas were satisfied with the conduct of the exercise and expressed optimism that the party would record victory in the 2027 House of Representatives election.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu appreciated party leaders, delegates, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
He stated that the endorsement would encourage him to continue working for the interest of the people of Enugu North and South Federal Constituency.
Hon. Atu promised to sustain his representation through legislative duties, empowerment programmes, youth engagement, and support for community development, while also assuring party members that he would continue to work with stakeholders across the constituency towards strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.
The lawmaker also praised President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Governor Mbah’s leadership styles both in governance and party administration, saying that they have set a future reference point in measuring both good governance and political party leadership.
