Veteran Nigerian comedian AY Makun has reflected on how much the entertainment industry has changed since the early days of AY Live, particularly when it comes to securing performances from some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars.
According to AY, artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage and Olamide have all performed at AY Live at different times.
He explained that, in those days, many of the appearances were made possible through personal friendships and relationships within the entertainment industry.
AY said artistes were often willing to accept reasonable payments mainly to cover their logistics and other expenses because of the existing relationships.
However, he noted that the situation has changed significantly as the Nigerian music industry has grown commercially.
According to him, some artists now reportedly demand fees running into hundreds of millions of naira to appear at major shows.
He claimed that appearance fees can now reach ₦200 million, ₦120 million, or ₦80 million, depending on the artiste.
