Market women at the popular Polokor Market in Warri, Delta State, staged a protest on Friday, October 16, following an alleged attempt by a woman accused of having an affair with a fellow trader’s husband to have the trader arrested.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the alleged side chic reportedly stormed the market with individuals said to be police officers to arrest the trader, whose identity was not immediately disclosed.
The development reportedly angered other traders at the market, who questioned the circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest and rallied in defence of their colleague.
The market women subsequently resisted the alleged police officers, preventing them from taking the trader away and expressing their displeasure over the incident.
The protest highlighted the traders’ solidarity with their colleague, as they reportedly viewed the attempted arrest as an unacceptable move in the dispute allegedly involving a marital relationship.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the alleged affair, the identity of the woman who initiated the attempted arrest, and whether the individuals who accompanied her were confirmed police officers remained unclear.
Further details are expected as more information emerges.
