FG Seeks Grassroots Support for Tinubu’s Reforms, Says Nigerians Must Understand Policies

Tinubu

The Federal Government (FG) has called for increased grassroots engagement to promote public understanding of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, insisting that citizens need accurate information about government policies and their expected benefits.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the call during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of Friends of Tinubu Reforms (FTR), Agbor Ebipade, to his office in Abuja.

The group, which supports the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, visited the minister to introduce its activities and seek collaboration with the ministry in communicating government policies and programmes to Nigerians at the grassroots.

In a statement issued by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris said effective communication was essential to ensuring that Nigerians understood the objectives of the administration’s reforms.

He noted that the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market were among the major policy decisions taken by the Tinubu administration to stabilise the economy.

According to the minister, the reforms have also helped improve the financial capacity of state governments to meet their obligations, including the payment of workers’ salaries.

Idris further highlighted government interventions in education, agriculture, security and infrastructure, citing the student loan programme and major road projects as part of the administration’s efforts to promote national development.

He stressed that government officials alone could not effectively communicate the administration’s policies to every part of the country, making partnerships with civil society organisations, voluntary groups and support groups necessary.

The minister commended Friends of Tinubu Reforms for compiling a document detailing the administration’s reforms and expressed the ministry’s readiness to support efforts aimed at making information about government programmes accessible to Nigerians.

Earlier, Ebipade said FTR was established to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthen communication between the government and citizens.

He explained that the organisation was preparing to launch a compendium of reforms designed to explain the administration’s policies and achievements to people at the grassroots.

Ebipade also invited Idris to serve as the organisation’s Grand Patron, expressing confidence that his involvement would strengthen the group’s efforts to promote public awareness of the government’s programmes.

The minister welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to communicating government policies and programmes in clear and accessible language.
