Nigerian Doctor Reacts as TVC Reporter Criticises Striking Doctors Following Toluwanisings’ Death

A Nigerian doctor has reacted after a TVC reporter criticised healthcare workers for embarking on a strike on the day late gospel artiste Toluwanisings reportedly slumped and needed urgent medical attention.

Recall that on Wednesday, October 14, the gospel singer reportedly slumped at his home in Ibadan, Oyo State, and was rushed to several hospitals but was allegedly turned away amid an ongoing doctors’ strike.

His sudden death sparked widespread reactions and renewed public debate about the state of Nigeria’s healthcare system, with many Nigerians expressing concerns over the impact of industrial actions on patients requiring emergency medical attention.

The striking doctors were reportedly demanding improved remuneration and better working conditions, among other concerns.

Reacting to the singer’s death, a TVC reporter criticised the doctors’ decision to embark on the strike, arguing that medical professionals take an oath to save lives and should uphold that responsibility at all times.

She maintained that doctors should prioritise saving lives rather than focusing solely on financial considerations. The reporter also questioned how the healthcare workers at the hospitals where Toluwanisings reportedly sought treatment would feel following news of his death.
