Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, a former caretaker chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area and political loyalist of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to distance himself from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Ihunwo made the remarks while criticising Wike’s continued involvement in Rivers State politics, accusing him of attempting to exert influence over the state after completing his two-term tenure as governor.
According to Ihunwo, Wike, along with other political figures including O.K. Chinda, has been rejected by Rivers people.
Wike, OK Chinda and others are enemies of Rivers State and Rivers people have rejected them, and indeed their leader, Chief Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike,” Ihunwo said.
He further accused Wike of bringing what he described as disgrace to the Ikwerre people and Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Wike has disgraced my people, for God’s sake. His father should call him to order, that he is disgracing Ikwerre people,” he said.
Ihunwo also questioned Wike’s continued political influence in the state, arguing that the former governor should allow the people of Rivers State to determine their political direction.
Wike can’t be governor by proxy for God’s sake!” he declared.
He added: “And what he is doing is to bring disgrace to the people of Ikwerre and Obio-Akpor as a local government.”
According to him, Wike’s eight-year tenure as governor should have marked the end of his direct control over the affairs of the state.
Rivers State is too big for a man like him to own. A man who has finished his tenure for eight years should leave and allow Rivers people to rest!”
