Nigerian comedian MC Lively has criticised media personality Daddy Freeze over his recent comments concerning Peter Obi and a luxury Hermès bag reportedly carried by the former Anambra State governor’s wife.
MC Lively questioned the argument that some Nigerians should reject Peter Obi because of the conduct of his supporters, describing such reasoning as dishonest.
According to the comedian, Nigerians should focus on a politician’s record, policies and vision for the country rather than the behaviour of individual supporters.
“With all due respect, sir, anytime I hear a person say, ‘I don’t support Peter Obi because of his supporters,’ I just know that you are a dishonest person,” MC Lively said.
He argued that Nigerians have legitimate reasons to express frustration over issues including economic hardship, insecurity, fuel prices and years of perceived neglect.
Turning to the controversy surrounding Peter Obi’s wife and the Hermès bag, MC Lively questioned whether the former presidential candidate had ever claimed that his wife was impoverished or that she could not afford luxury items.
“When did Peter Obi say that his wife is helping him use one shoe and one watch? Did he say that his wife is impoverished? Did you not already say that he is a billionaire?” he asked.
MC Lively further argued that there should be nothing wrong with Nigerians aspiring to become financially successful before entering public service.
“He made money before government. Is this not what Nigerians are supposed to be aspiring to? To be someone who makes money and then goes to government to serve? Is that not what governance is?” he added.
