A prominent broadcaster with Arise TV, Rufai Oseni, has stirred political debate following his remarks on the evolving dynamics ahead of Nigeria’s next electoral cycle.
Speaking during a programme, Oseni asserted that Peter Obi remains the most formidable challenger capable of mounting serious opposition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to him, a key political strategy among rivals may be to prevent Obi from appearing on the ballot.
Oseni also addressed criticisms surrounding Obi’s recent political movements, dismissing claims of inconsistency. He argued that Obi’s exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) mirrors the circumstances that led to his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022.
He further linked the situation to internal disputes within the PDP, noting that the stance of Nyesom Wike was partly justified by ongoing developments within the party. Oseni claimed that similar tensions played out within the ADC, where, according to his sources, the camp of Atiku Abubakar had already gained significant control of party structures.
Providing insight into alleged internal negotiations, Oseni revealed that during a meeting in Oyo State, there were proposals to zone the party’s presidential ticket to the South. However, he claimed that Atiku’s camp opposed the move, intensifying internal disagreements.
Contrary to Obi’s public explanation that his departure was linked to legal uncertainties, Oseni alleged that the former Anambra governor was effectively sidelined within the party and left with limited options.
