Nigeria’s aviation industry has recorded a new milestone as Bayelsa State-owned Pioneer Airline officially secured its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), paving the way for the commencement of commercial flight operations.
The certificate was presented by the aviation regulator on Wednesday, marking a major step for the newly established airline. Following the presentation, the airline’s management team, led by its Managing Director, Capt. Ungbuku, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, where they formally presented the AOC.
Reacting to the development, Keyamo described the emergence of more state-owned airlines as a reflection of the aviation reforms and policies introduced under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the minister, the sector is witnessing increased growth and expansion, with expectations that more state-backed airlines could emerge in the near future. He noted that the trend would create more options for passengers and improve accessibility within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The launch of Pioneer Airline is expected to further strengthen domestic air travel and increase competition among operators in the country.
