Police Rescue Kidnap Victim

A woman who was abducted by suspected kidnappers in Okpuje, Nsukka Local Government Area, has been rescued following a swift joint security operation by the Enugu State Police Command.

According to the Police, the incident occurred at about 10:10 a.m. on Friday, July 31, when armed men reportedly emerged from a nearby forest and abducted the woman along Anuka Road, Okpuje.

Acting on a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Okpuje Division mobilised police operatives alongside members of the Enugu State Forest Guard and Neighbourhood Watch, who tracked the suspects into the Anuka Forest near the Enugu–Kogi State boundary.

During an exchange of gunfire, one suspected kidnapper was neutralised, while other members of the gang reportedly fled into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries.

The Police said the victim was rescued unhurt, while her two children and motorcycle, which had been left behind by the kidnappers, were also recovered at the scene.

The woman and her children have since been reunited with their family, while security agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commissioner of Police CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa commended the Police, Forest Guard, and Neighbourhood Watch personnel for their swift response and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes across Enugu State.
