Suspected Boko Haram militants have reportedly attacked Pissa village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing and abducting an yet-to-be-confirmed number of residents.

The attack reportedly happened in the early hours of Saturday when more than 100 armed men invaded the community, opened fire on residents and set several houses ablaze.

Local sources said the attackers overwhelmed members of the local vigilante group who attempted to resist the invasion, forcing many villagers to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

The assailants were also said to have issued threats to neighbouring communities, raising fresh fears among residents in the area.

Access to the affected village has reportedly remained difficult due to damaged infrastructure and poor road connectivity, making it harder for help and security reinforcement to reach the community quickly.

Residents said security operatives had not arrived at the time the attack was ongoing, while the exact number of those killed, injured or abducted had yet to be confirmed.

The incident has again raised serious concerns over the spread of terrorist and bandit attacks in parts of Niger State, especially communities around Borgu that have faced repeated security threats in recent months.

Residents are calling on security agencies and the government to urgently intervene, protect vulnerable communities and prevent further attacks in the area
