Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have intensified patrols and surveillance around Pulka in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State following an attack on a military base by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.
The development followed an assault on the military base on Monday, which troops reportedly repelled with support from the Nigerian Air Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the terrorists attempted to overwhelm the troops and disrupt security operations in the community but were forced to withdraw after encountering sustained resistance from the soldiers.
The Nigerian Air Force reportedly provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support during the engagement, helping troops maintain situational awareness and coordinate their response.
As the attackers retreated, the air component of Operation Hadin Kai reportedly conducted strikes against identified hostile elements in an effort to disrupt their movement and prevent them from regrouping.
One soldier was reportedly wounded in the left arm during the encounter. He was evacuated for medical attention and stabilised, with his condition said to be stable.
Following the attack, troops commenced exploitation operations around the area to assess the impact of the assault, recover any abandoned weapons or equipment and gather intelligence that could support further operations against the terrorists.
Military sources said troops had remained deployed around Pulka and were operating on heightened alert, with increased patrols and surveillance aimed at preventing the terrorists from returning to the area or establishing a foothold.
The latest operations highlight the military’s continued focus on denying insurgent groups freedom of movement in communities around Gwoza and other parts of Borno State.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies to support ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
