Panic in Port Harcourt as Students Allegedly Go on Rampage After WAEC Examination

Residents and business owners on Bernard Carr Street in Port Harcourt Township were thrown into panic on Friday, June 19, 2026, after some senior students of PABOD Secondary School allegedly went on a rampage following their WAEC examination.

According to eyewitnesses, a resident identified as Mr. Ejima sustained serious injuries, including a cut to his nose, after he reportedly tried to stop some students from causing a disturbance near a business premises on Port Johnson Street.

Another victim, Miss Amarachi, alleged that some students entered a nearby shop, picked bottles to fight among themselves, and later attacked the store after they were chased away. During the incident, a staff member reportedly suffered a head injury, while bottles and other property were damaged.

Witnesses also claimed the students vandalised property along the street and allegedly carted away a tricycle van loaded with sachet water belonging to St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church.

Residents have called on the Rivers State Ministry of Education and security agencies to investigate the incident and take steps to prevent a recurrence.
